A Functional Democracy is a volunteer, mission-based organization with the grand vision of changing the civic culture in Austin (and beyond). Our goal is to inspire Austinites to use local government to create the communities, country and world they want to live in.

Lectures
A crash course on all things Austin politics. Attendees will walk away with the top 3 bits of info they need to know and the top 3 action items they need to take to start engaging in our local democratic system! Lectures are between 30 and 90 minutes long.
Workshops
An interactive experience giving attendees a hands-on look at how local government works and how to become a leader within it. Everyone will walk away knowing the difference between local, state, and national government, as well as how to affect meaningful policy change right here in Austin.
The Book
A Beginner’s Guide to Local Government is our easy-to-read (and fun) guide that walks you through all the basics about how Austin's local government system works... and most importantly, how to get involved.
