Tired of 2020 politics? Feel like you're drowning in your news feed?

Don't just keep up, speak up... and give local government a try!

Welcome to We The Party.

Our goal is to bring 150 Austinites, who have never spoken at a City Council meeting before, to City Hall to learn how to make their voices heard.

Don't know anything about local government? Have no idea where City Hall even is? Not sure what our mayor's name is?

Never fear! This event is just the thing for you!

Here's how it works:

1. RSVP!

2. To prepare for the event (and giving your testimony), you'll have 3 options:

Attend an in-person or online training with one of our Functional Democracy Fellows (you'll be able to sign up for this when you RSVP on this page)

Sign up to receive short (and entertaining) videos teaching you about City Hall and how to testify by texting localgov to 474747 (You can also find these videos on our website, afunctionaldemocracy.com)

Just show up to the event on December 11th and we'll have a qualified team of volunteer trainers onsite to help you write your testimony

3. On December 11th, you'll have the opportunity to give a 1 minute speech/testimony in front of our city's elected officials. You can talk about whatever you'd like, but suggested topics include:

Your biggest hopes, dreams, or fears for the future of Austin.

How some of our city's biggest issues (transportation, affordability, gentrification) have affected you personally

Ideas you have on how to make our city a better place to live
